How To Clean Mac Keyboard

Microbiologists have tested the keyboards and found that they can harbor more germs than a toilet seat, and because of this, it is essential to regularly clean and disinfects the Keyboard. If you have a Mac keyboard, you need to take special caution when cleaning the Keyboard to avoid causing any damage.

By Disabling your device and turning it off by using a microfiber cloth and the disinfecting wipes, being very gentle, and avoiding getting liquid in any openings, you will be able to maintain your Mac Keyboard clean and free from germs.

Methods To Clean Mac keyboard

Method 1: By Removing The Dirt And Debris

  • Shut down your laptop

If your Keyboard is a part of your laptop, then shut down the laptop before you start cleaning it. This will help you in preventing the damage from occurring during the process of cleaning.

  • Unplug your Keyboard from its power source

If the Keyboard is a part of the laptop, then unplug the laptop entirely. Or disconnect the Keyboard from your PC, laptop, or tablet.

  • Shake the excess dirt and crumbs into a trashcan or sink.

Firstly, carry the Keyboard over a trashcan and tip it upside down. Then gently shake and move it side to side to dislodge any loose dirt or objects, and then run your hands gently over the keys to loosen the dirt which may be stuck.

  • Spray the compressed air into the Keyboard of a MacBook

Firstly, Turn the Keyboard at a 75-degree angle so it is not quite vertical. Now spray some compressed air from left to the right across all over the surface of the Keyboard. Then Keep the straw of the air compression can about ½ inch away from the keys.

After spraying, rotates the Keyboard 90 degrees to one side and then spray all keys again from left to right. And repeat this process unless and until you have sprayed the Keyboard at all sides.

  • Run the damp soft, lint-free cloth over the surface of the Keyboard

Get the damp cloth and then ring out any excess moisture before touching the Keyboard with it. Then run the cloth very gently over the surface of the keys to remove dust and dirt. Ensure that you don’t get excess moisture in between the keys in this whole process.

  • Remove the stains by using a damp cotton swab or damp lint free cloth.

For stains on your keys or the Keyboard, use a bit of pressure to scrub them off. Get the cotton swab or a cloth and gently damp, and then apply it to the stain. You can then rub it in a circular motion, gently, until the stain goes off.

  • Dry your Mac keyboard with a dry and soft, lint-free cloth.

Consider it using a microfiber cloth for this step. Then run it all over its Keyboard to remove any remaining moisture or dust that may have also collected.

Method 2: Disinfecting The Keyboard

  1. Keep your laptop off and Keyboard unplugged.

While disinfecting, ensure that your laptop is turned off and unplugged as well. If the Keyboard is separated from the PC, be sure that it is disconnected from any power sources.

  • Purchase a pack of disinfecting wipes.

Some types of disinfecting wipes to be considered are Clorox or Lysol. You will need that do not include any bleach, so check the labels before purchasing it.

  • Squeeze out the wipes into the sink to remove the excess moisture.

Sometimes you will grab a disinfecting wipe, which is very wet. Ensure that you have squeezed it out to make it only slightly damp before using it on the Keyboard.

  • Scrub your Mac Keyboard gently with the disinfecting wipe

Just take a wipe over a finger. Use that finger for a gentle massage of each key and the area between the keys. Be very careful and not push too hard or move the finger too fast so that you don’t damage the keys.

  • Dry the Keyboard

It is an essential step that is easily overlooked. Ensure that you use a clean, soft, lint-free cloth to remove any Keyboard moisture after disinfecting it. You have to ensure yourself that you do not hold the wipe on the Keyboard for too long after you wipe up each key, discard the wipe and then dry the Keyboard gently.

  • Wait for only 5 to 10 minutes before switching the Keyboard or laptop back on.

To wait for a bit will give some time to the Keyboard to get fully dry. And once it gets completely dry, you can then turn on your Keyboard back and then enjoy the cleanliness.
