QBO File Extension: Steps to Open QBO File Format?

What is QBO File?

The QBO file is often associated with QuickBooks. These files are one of those web files used in the QuickBooks software. QBO files consist of an electronic bank statement downloaded from the financial institution’s website. QBO refers to the QuickBooks Online Bank statement file.

QuickBooks mainly developed by an American Accounting software company, “Intuit.” This software is an accounting software package that mainly caters to small and medium-sized businesses’ accounting needs. QuickBooks also features various web-based characteristics that enable online banking assessments such as online banking, payroll functions, and bill payments. QBO files are mainly related to the online features of QuickBooks.

Steps to Import Created QBO File into QuickBooks for Windows

  1. After the QBO file gets created, switch to QuickBooks and then import the file.
  2. First, ensure that the account you wish to import into does not have a yellow strike icon before importing them.
  3. If you have that icon, it means that the account is linked online to the direct download. You need first to disconnect it to import the QBO file.
  4. Right-click on the “Edit Account” to disconnect it from online.
  5. Click on the “Bank Feed Settings” and the “Deactivate All Online Services” firstly, if required.
  6. Check out there should be no yellow icon after making changes. After disconnecting it from online, you can now import the QBO file.
  7. Then select the File button, click on the utility tab and then on the Import button, go to the Web Connect Files, and then select the created QBO file.
  8. Select an existing account to import the transactions. Check the bank label, Account number, Account Type to select the correct Account in QuickBooks. Click on the Continue tab.
  9. Now your data gets imported.
  10. Click on the Transaction List to review the transactions. Assign the Vendor Records and expense/income accounts before adding the transactions to the register.
  11. Column “Downloaded as” displays the Payee names from the QBO file. It displays the Vendor Records. When you select the Vendor Record for the Payee from the QBO file, QuickBooks remember your choice for the next QBO import.
  12. Click on the ‘Show Bank Memo’ to see the description to the ‘Bank Memo’ column.
  13. Vendor Records and Accounts get set; you can add the transactions to the register. The rename rule creation dialog box will show up after use for the next time.

Steps to Import Created QBO File into QuickBooks for MacOS

  5. Click on the “Online Settings” and the “Not Enabled”  firstly, if required, and then press the save button.
  6. Tap the OK button and then Check out. There should be no blue ball icon after making changes. After disconnecting it from online, you can now import the QBO file.
  7. Then select the File button, click on the Import tab, go to the Web Connect Files, and then select the created QBO file.
  8. Select an existing account to import the transactions. It displays the Account number, Account Type, and it also offers you to select an existing Account.  Click on the Continue tab.
  9. Now your data gets imported.

  • Incomplete installation of the application that supports QBO file format can also be the reason behind it.

  • The system may not have sufficient disk space to open the QBO file.
  • Drivers required to open the file may outdated.
  • QuickBooks file you are trying to open may have an infected virus.

Tips to Open QBO File

QBO file can open by a text editor like Notepad. Keep in mind some tips for how to open the QBO file format.

  1. Firstly, ensure that the Web Connect file gets placed in the correct path on the system from where QuickBooks can easily access the QBO file.
  2. Then browse the File/Utilities/Import/Web Connect Files list from QuickBooks.
  3. Then select the .qbo file and tap the Open button.
  4. When you have asked to select the Bank Account, select the account to import the file.
  5. Then click on the Continue button.
  6. After importing the file, visit the Online Banking Centre and then review the transactions.

Now you can easily open the QBO file with the correct software.
